According to the ministry’s report, most of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in all 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (15,114), Bac Ninh (4,698), Nghe An (4,329), Quang Ninh (3,992), and Son La (3,672). Three northern provinces of Nam Dinh, Bac Giang, and Thai Nguyen today also added 20,866, 12,691, and 7,994 new infections respectively to the national tally.
As of Wednesday evening, 3,702,080 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (538,861), Hanoi (300,387), Binh Duong (299,327), Dong Nai (101,588), and Tay Ninh (91,384).
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 3,709,481. The country now stands 30th among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On March 2, an additional 36,902 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 2,516,785.
On Wednesday evening, a further 114 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 40,452. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hanoi (18), Quang Nam (11), Nam Dinh (7), Dong Nai (6), Bac Giang (5), and Danang (5).
Vietnam on March 1 administered 342,070 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, raising the total number of doses given to local people to over 195.30 million.
