NDO – Through their countless initiatives and achievements in research and in other work, Vietnamese women have proven their significant involvement and positive contributions to facilitating national development and boosting gender equality.
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc made the remark at a ceremony hosted by the Vietnam Women’s Union in Hanoi on October 18 to celebrate its 85th anniversary.
He affirmed that the Party and State highly appreciate the union for their ceaseless efforts over the last 85 years of its development.
Vietnamese women have played an increasingly important role in national construction and defence as well as in the country’s industrialisation and modernisation process, he stressed.
Reviewing the glorious history and tradition of Vietnamese women, the union’s Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa said that the union has established itself as a representative organisation which cares for and protects the legal and legitimate rights and interests of Vietnamese women.
The union has demonstrated its central role in unlocking potential and upholding the creativity and ingenuity of Vietnamese women working in all fields of social life, encouraging them to contribute to socio-economic development.
The union has also fulfilled its task of proposing guidelines, policies and laws relating to women to the Party and State.
At the ceremony, on behalf of the Party and State, Deputy PM Phuc awarded the Vietnam Women’s Union with the Independence Order (first class).
Nine collectives and ten individuals of the union were also honoured on the occasion for their positive contributions to social development.
